Shades of the Victorian Era

This is a little out of my usual style but when I saw this PB stamp I fell in love with it. The card is bound for a Breast Cancer Awareness auction and I hope it finds a good home. I found it extremely difficult to part with it, which means I'm going to have to use this stamp again - soon1

It's colored with Copics, embossed with the Bug's Swiss Dots and mounted on a Spellbinders Nestie. Oh yes, and I entered it in this week's Penny Black Saturday Challenge Anything Goes.

Tilda's BIrthday Card

Midweek Magnolia has a sketch as a challenge this week and I decided to join, something I don't do frequently enough.

I know, it's a square card as usual, but since I make most of my cards for Operation Write Home (this is no exception) and they request A2 size cards, I made some minor adjustments to make my creation fit the challenge. I hope this fits the bill. The flowers were made with a Sizzix Bigz flower die and skewered together with white brads, and the papers were all chosen from my ridiculously large stash. The dark pink background paper was embossed with Cuttlebug's Asian folder and the corner embellishments are the dots from some chipboard alphabet i's. Tilda has just finished her friend's birthday card and is patiently waiting for the postman to pick it up.

A peel-off sentiment finishes it off for a pretty simple rendition of a very pretty sketch.

One for the Kids

Here's one I made for my nephew. Boy birthdays are not always the easiest, but there's something about frogs that seems to generate a giggle or a smile. Penny Black makes the giggliest frogs I know and, combined with this sentiment, I hope it generates at least one giggle and two out-loud guffaws! Even if he isn't amused by this, I am and just the fun of making cards like this keeps me giggling and feeling silly. After all, isn't feeling silly what keeps you young (at least at heart.)

This one goes to this week's Penny Black Saturday challenge - http://pennybfriendssaturdaychallenge.blogspot.com/"The Young Ones". Is this young enough?

Playing With My New Toys

Well, I just had to do it. I invested in some very special new dies and have been having a blast creating cards with them. This Cheery Lynn die is one I couldn't resist so I decided to make a simple scene  just for fun. Tilda in Lacy Jeans seemed perfect for this so I combined her with the Screen Door (and cat) die, yes, that's real screen in the door, and you can see the pretty Squigglefly digi tree in the background. I hung a Jolee birdcage from the ceiling  because I think they're pretty cute and it seemed the right thing to do. I have a hunch the cat is eyeing that cage hungrily but with Tilda keeping watch I don't think he stands a chance. I finished it off with a sentiment meant to pay homage to my Welsh heritage - thanks to Tom Jones - and one of his hit songs from the 60's. Welshmen really love their music, that's for sure! With the weekend coming up I'm now looking forward to lots of play time with the rest of my new dies so you can be sure I'll be posting more in the near future.

I've entered this in two challenges this week.
C.R.A.F.T. Challenge - Inspired by a Song
MidWeek Magnolia - Their very first challenge, appropriately themed "Hello", use a greeting

Hurry Up Spring!

Almost here. Daylight Saving Time Sunday morning, oh boy that lost hour of sleep! What am I saying? I'm retired so what do I care! I can sleep in!!! Sorry, all you working folk but I had to gloat. In honor of the upcoming sunny days and warm nights, I've combined a Magnolia stamp with a cute little  House Mouse. Unfortunately I don't see that this background image is available right now but the window die is available for pre-order from the Magnolia-licious store; it's a PoppyStamp Die and one of several that I've purchased lately. They're just too darn cute and sooooo much fun to play with.  The digital background paper is from Bearly Mine, the scalloped border is Die-Namics and the embossing is Cuttlebug Swiss Dots. I can't believe I haven't worn the dots off this folder I use it so much :)
There, did I leave any detail out? Oh yes, colored with Copics, ribbon and card stock from stash. So much for more information than you needed to know (lol). My message is just this:

Movin' and Groovin'

OMGosh! Magnolia-licious Highlites has really done it this month. Their month long challenge is to make a card with something that moves. Do you believe that? Did they do this just for me? Who told them that I'm obsessed with Action Wobbles and images that MOVE? If you know me you know I'm pouncing on this challenge and you know I'm pulling out my extreme video making talent to demonstrate my clever moving Tilda and Mudpie House Mouse card. Now, it's up to you to decide if she's shaking with laughter or from fright. Just so you know she's really moving. Martin Scorcese, eat your heart out. I think this video belongs in the Documentary - Short Subject Category. I'm polishing up my acceptance speech for next year's Oscar ceremony. Thanks to all the little people.

Who Doesn't Love Penny Black

From elegant to frivolous there's a stamp for all reasons when you choose PB and it's a good bet that most everyone has at least one of their precious images. I was surprised when I sorted through all of my stamps and realized how many I have (still not enough, tho). Under the circumstances, I thought it was time to enter a PB challenge and have a little show off fun with one of my favorite cuties.  This week's challenge was a sketch so I followed it faithfully and came up with this card for a friend who has a birthday coming up very soon. I was really lucky to find the cute sentiment that matched so perfectly and when a card making buddy directed me to CAS-ual Fridays and their challenge to use a pun on your card I couldn't resist.

I colored him with Copics, added some digital designer paper, my 'punny' sentiment and a bit of bling along with a yellow gingham ribbon and some yellow Prima flowers. That's it. No muss, no fuss. Just fun.

Tilda Wants a Hug

Well, here's something that doesn't happen very often for me. In fact, I don't remember it ever happening so I had to take advantage. I made this card this weekend as a birthday card for one of my nieces, only to discover that it qualified (I hope) for several challenges. Now, I envy the ladies who find scads of challenges to enter. Me, I just don't have the patience to follow through on this project so today I'm taking advantage. I love this little gal 'cuz she just radiates love and good will and friendship. I cut the card from the Wild Card Cricut cart and the heart doily from the MS Elegant Cakes cart, corner embellishment by Sizzix, Prima flowers, paper-pieced pinafore and socks, and MS punched butterflies with rhinestone bling. I left the inside pretty simple so I could write a love note to a dear little girl when the time comes. That 2 inch doily is from Martha Stewart.  Have to say, this shade of turquoise is one of my favorites, which made this card a real pleasure to make.

Here are the three challenges I entered this week:
7KidsCollegeFund (Monochromatic) Pat, I hope I followed the instructions correctly this time :)
Simply Magnolia (Bows and Bling)

Think Pink

I'm hooked on Cheery Lynn Dies. Don't believe me? Check out this simple card. Just some delicate floral dp covered by a Cheery Lynn A2 frame die and topped with two of their magnificent butterflies. So much detail on these little winged delights. Can you tell I love 'em? Anyhoo, just visited their blog and decided to enter this card in their weekly challenge - this week to use a frame.

A pearl flourish to finish it off and it's done. Wouldn't it be nice if everything in life could be so clean, simple and lovely?

Fight Like a Girl

Tilda is in quite a feisty mood these days. She heard about a friend whose husband is not well and she just had to send these nice folks some words of encouragement. Well, she put on the gloves and got busy! She was a RAK and I hope maybe just for a moment she was able to provoke a smile. Tilda's turning out to be quite a versatile young lady and this is one fight that I really, really hope she wins!

Serenading Tilda

Quick post this a.m. Tilda has a song in her heart that she wants to share with everyone. I think she's looking for any excuse to celebrate and show off her musical talent. Maybe 'cuz spring's not far off and she's in a chirpy frame of mind? Regardless, here she is all dressed up and ready to go!

My only problem is, my treble clef sign keeps getting twisted around backwards! Oh well, good intentions you know :)
Hope the weekend treats you all well.

Pretty in Purple

Spring's not too far off now, with daylight saving time right around the corner so I thought Tilda would like to try on her new fancy frock with its matching parasol.  I may be getting ahead of myself since it's only early February, but our recent summer heat wave has really inspired me. I hope the nice weather lasts a while but even if it doesn't we can always re-create it with pretty images on paper.

This was a RAK for a card group friend. She let me know she received it, so it's okay to post. I colored with Copics and kept her pretty CAS. It doesn't show up here but the design on the background paper is silvery and very shiny.  Maybe one of these days I can get a new digi camera so my scanner doesn't have to do all the work.

Some RAKs featuring The House Mouses!

Had a bit of fun last week making and sending a few RAKs to friends on one of my card groups. The idea to make February "RAK" month came from one of our group members and I thought it was one of the best ideas I'd heard in ages. I've had a few rather stressful months lately and one of the bright distractions has been these great groups of ladies (and man, won't forget you Joe) with their encouraging comments and examples of creative paper crafts to keep me thinking positive thoughts. This was a great opportunity to kinda pay it forward just a little bit, and say thank you to everyone who's really kept my spirits up.

This was sent as a birthday card.

This is my cute little "Irish" mouse, a month early, but still cute!

I just grin every time I look at this. Their expressions are priceless!

My only regret is that I really didn't have enough time to make RAKs for everyone, but I won't forget. Eventually I hope I can reach out to those who I missed this go-around. You all deserve it. In the meantime, thank you all for your kind words, for the concern you expressed, for the laughs and inspiration. You're all special people.

Dreaming of the Tropics

No, in case you're wondering, I'm not delusional. I don't think we're in the middle of summer and I'm not particularly yearning for warmer weather; after all, we've had a really mild winter here in SoCal so far.  The truth is, I have a friend who is moving to a beautiful tropical island this month and I just wanted to give her a little reminder of what she has to look forward to.

The beach background is a Sizzix border die, the ocean 'waves' are from an EK Success edger punch, the turtle is Jolee's, the starfish ribbon: RRR, and of course Tilda and her inner tube riding the waves. I added some Prima pearl flourishes and a rather strange looking gold foil sun.
.... and, if you hadn't already guessed, Tilda and her tube are popped up on an Action Wobble!!!!

February, the month of Love

Everyone's thinking hearts and flowers, red and pink, chocolates and diamonds - wait a minute - Diamonds?? Well, wishful thinking aside, in case you didn't know where this was going, February 14 is Valentine's Day and I would be shamefully remiss if I didn't remember some of my favorite peeps on this prestigious day! My stamp is from House Mouse, the hearts are Sizzix embossed with SU's Iridescent Ice (which I love, BTW), the cute ruffly ribbon is RRR and the paper from Doodlebug's Sweet Cakes paper pack. The flowers are from my flower bin, mostly purchased from Michaels with a couple Wild Orchid pink rose buds tucked in for good luck. I haven't decided which fave peep this is going to yet, I just know it's not my nephew Kevin. Every year it gets harder to make cards for him, he's growing so fast (11 now) and all boy. So, female members of my family, be on the lookout. This may be headed your way :)

I've entered this in the following challenge this week:

Penny Black Floral Frenzy

Just finished this card for a RAK to a friend and saw that the Penny Black Challenge of the week is Floral Frenzy. Now, what a great coincidence.  I think this qualifies, as there are lots of flowers plus a Penny Black sentiment - wish BIG. My image is a little House Mouse, dp is from MemoryBox Minuet paper pack, the flowers are Petaloo and the beautiful, detailed little butterflies are Cheery Lynn, cut from DCWV glittered card stock.  Oh yes, and I have been known to go into a frenzy on occasion so I guess that counts, too :)

Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?

Remember the old song you probably learned in school "Oh Where Have You Been, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?" (Substitute Eddie boy, Eddie boy). Well, to answer the question, yes she can! and I'm here to prove it.  She was so impressed with Edwin's new, cool look that she ran right to the kitchen to bake him up a treat. I guess that "other boy" didn't stand a chance. Thank goodness! My money was on Edwin all along, he's just too dang cute for his own good. My sentiment is computer-generated and the pie is a 2x2 Quikutz die. I've had more fun with that pie die (lol), sure glad I got it. Just shows you never know where you'll find your next little treasure.

I have to take a break now. This card has activated my sweet tooth! Hope your weekend is sweet as ....

Cool Eddie

Edwin has decided to be a "Cool Dude", that's what he told me today, 'cuz he thinks that maybe that will get Tilda's attention. See, she's been making googly eyes at another boy and Ed's not happy! So here he is, striking a pose, looking sooooo cooooool, don't you think? Let's hope Tilda thinks so. We'll just have to wait and see, huh?
The paper is Jillibean Soup, luv those owls! The buttons are from SEI and the coloring, compliments of Copic. What do you think? Will Tilda notice? Stay tuned ..........

A Little Bit of Cheer Up

Finally got a chance to play with my new Sweet Crazy Love Celebration Tilda. This new collection is sooo cute, isn't it? Someone needed a little boost up and a smile so I made this card.with the sentiment from Gina K's You Go Girl collection, dp from Doodlebug Sweet Cakes paper pack, QuiKutz heart dies and pink Stickles. The pearl flourish was from my stash and the valentine ribbon from RRR's February set. There - I DID remember where all my "stuff" came from this time. Please give me a gold star for today. That doesn't happen very often. In any case, I'm entering her in Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog "Red Pink White" challenge. Yes, I do a challenge every so often, just not often enough. Hope this little card conveys the message I'm trying to send and gives someone a smile.

Oh, yes. She's colored with Copics and a little sprinkle of Sakura Stardust sparkle. Enjoy!!

I'm Jumpin' the Gun, or "Is it June yet?"

I'm yearning for strawberries, fresh strawberries from my garden. Dripping, sweet, juicy STRAWBERRIES. Oh dear, I think I have a looooong wait, so to make the time go faster I'll just pretend my House Mouse is harvesting my first crop for me. Really, tho, I've been very busy making pink cards for a Breast Cancer Awareness auction my friend in Australia holds every year. If I get an early start, maybe I can make two or three batches. I'd sure like to. So far I have 20 cards done with 10 more to go for this batch. So if I haven't been posting much lately, that's why. Spending all my effort on cutting, pasting, stamping - you get the drift. Anyhoo - here's my strawberry dream. The pie is a little QuicKutz die and of course I don't remember where the rest of the embellies came from. My bad!!

I found some strawberry brads and a strawberry charm to go with the strawberry dp. Could this be overkill? NOT!!! Now I'm thinkin' maybe a run to Marie Callendar's for a Strawberry Pie???
 Whipped cream, anyone?

OWH Sketch Challenge #104

Wow, where does the time go? I post some 2011 fave OWH cards, go back about my business re-organizing and making some cards for a special project and oops! It's Jan 17 already. Honest, peeps, I've  been so busy trying to get back in the groove that time just zipped past me. Too much catch-up to do I guess. That's what you get for being a wimpy sicky. Anyhoo, OWH Sketch for this week is sooooo simple and so perfect for my darling Hero Arts Owl Trio that I dropped everything to make this simple card just so I could play along.. Love my little owls and the DCWV Green Stack so I used this week's sketch:

to make this very simple card.

In the future, I promise to try to keep a closer eye on the calendar!!

2011 Retrospective

Operation Write Home is having a "Post Your 10 Favorite Cards" Hop/Challenge. What a great idea! I need to get back into the groove and what better way than to try and pick 10 cards I sent to OWH last year to display on my first Blog post of the new year. Keeping my ramble as short as possible, here are the 10 I picked to share in this post. Now I have to go get my first set of 2012 ready for mailing.
